Visit the Nation Museum that exhibits numerous antiquates historical relics, archeological and pale-ontological objects including the 3.5 million year old skeleton of ‘LUSY’, one of the fine Ethiopian orthodox ChurchesSt. George cathedral that contains several interesting modern paintings and mosaics panoramic, Mercato the biggest open air market in Africa and the commanding panoramic view point Mount Entoto which of the view of the city.

In addition to the ‘SADOR 1601’ the Ethnological Museum that provides very interesting overview of Ethiopian crafts, culture, art; Holy Trinity Cathedral known for its interior paintings and Handicrafts center that offers the rich legacy of traditional handicrafts that serve perfect souvenir.

 

Situated at 60km south-west of Addis Ababa Melka-Kunture is a famous archeological site where fossils of pre history age as well as stone tools dating 1.5 millions years have been discovered. Few km drive from this point can be rich Adadi Mariam cave church believed date back to the 13th century and gives a good indication of the Lalibela rock-hewn churches.

 

 

If you think Grand Canyon is impressive, try paying a visit to its Africa cousin – Blue Nile Gorge. Situated 210km north of Addis Ababa and with about one mile width and depth, the Blue Nile Gorge is one of the most spectacular gorge in the world. On the way after 100km drive is the renowned monastery of Debre-Lebanos, founded in the 13th century.

 

 

Sodere, 126km from Addis Ababa is a very popular resort area. To reach there the road passes through some interesting towns of Debre ZeitMojo, and Nazareth. Swimming in the Olympic size pool filled with warm mineral water. The huge river side trees offer shade and shelter to entertaining monkeys and birds of varied species.

 

 

For swimmers and hikers, Ambo 125 from west of Addis Ababa is an ideal place. The road takes you through Geferssa, one of Addis Ababa’s water supply reservoir and fertile for the farm land. The main attractions of this area are Wonchi Crater LakeGuder River Falls and the vineyard.

 

 

 

Ankober had been the political centre from mid 18th till Addis Ababa became the capital of Ethiopian Empire. Located at 172km northeast of Debre Berhan, Ankober offers spectacular scenery overlooking the Great Rift Valley; a unique monastery with Judeo-Christians tradition and ruins of Emperor Menelik’s Palace.
